Frac Sand Equipment Sand Dryer
While our specialty is building entire frac sand processing facilities, for the budget conscious, or small plant, or for replacement of non-functional equipment, Del Sol also offers individual sand processing equipment components.
This page is dedicated to frac sand dryers. There are only a few types of effective sand dryers out there. In general, we consider two in our designs. Fluidized bed dryers and rotary dryers. While the cost is drastically lower for rotary dryers, we have found an abundance of fluidized bed dryers being used in large scale sand operations due to their efficiency and reduced maintenance. Rotary dryers cost much less up front but we find that the long term btu requirement per ton to be higher. There is data both ways but this is generally what we see. So, pay now or pay later. A higher up-front investment in fluidized bed yields lower gas bills and operating costs long term.
Fluidized Bed Frac Sand Dryer
This article focused on the design and style of the fluidized bed dryer that we prefer. Our relationship with this manufacturer is non-exclusive so we don’t publicly mention brand to protect our leads but this brand is used by the biggest name sand suppliers in the U.S. (just being honest here).

These units are very simple, easy to operate and maintain, and function with a minimum of moving parts. Essentially, the only moving parts are the three blowers.
- One for the heated fluidization chamber.
- One for the cooling chamber (if cooling is required)
- One for the dust collection system or wet scrubber.
Unlike other fluidized beds out there, this unit is very simply to allow for the most basic of mechanical experience to operate it. Why add fancy bells and whistles when they are simply unnecessary?

This unit runs and is monitored based on actual sand temperature. We do provide plenum pressures to the control room for observation that all is well, but the functional controls are based strictly on sand temperature as it is sand temperature that ultimately determines if the sand is dry. The most basic control package available. PLC system are also available as required for your plant.
These units feature outstanding insulation from both a temperature control and wear standpoint and they hold up very well. The photos above are of an 11 year old system that still looks like new and runs flawlessly with very little intervention or maintenance.
